Established in July 2018, the Department of Artificial Intelligence initially enrolled 80 undergraduate students in the AI track under the Computer Science and Technology program in September 2018. In April 2019, the program received official approval to offer a dedicated undergraduate major in Intelligent Science and Technology, with formal enrollment beginning in September 2019.
The department currently has 21 faculty members, including:

The faculty have led or participated in over 30 national and provincial-level research projects, including:
- National Natural Science Foundation of China Projects
- Key Tasks and Sub-projects of the National Key R&D Program
- Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation Projects
- Shandong Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Next Generation AI Technology
- Shandong Provincial Key Lab for Smart Mining
- Research Laboratories: Intelligent Information Processing, Remote Sensing and Machine Intelligence, Big Data Intelligence, Computational Intelligence, and others.
The department is committed to cultivating high-level talents and driving innovation in artificial intelligence, directly supporting the urgent needs of Shandong Province and the city of Qingdao’s economic transformation through new and traditional energy conversion initiatives. With a strong research foundation and modern teaching resources, the AI Department prepares students to become leaders in the next generation of intelligent technologies.
